One business. Two connected disciplines.

From the hull
to the helm.

Waking Giant Marine brings together vessel condition assessment and marine electronics development. Founder Justin Winkelmann draws on Royal Canadian Navy service, technical authority work and independent marine projects to turn complex systems into clear, practical next steps.

For boat owners, that means a considered look at accessible systems and condition. For technology partners, it means a founder who understands both the hardware and the environment it has to serve.

A clearer picture
before your next step.

Buying a boat, planning repairs or getting to know a vessel you already own? Start with an inspection focused on the questions that matter to you.

Hull and deck condition, machinery, electrical installations, corrosion and onboard systems can be considered within an agreed scope and the access available.

Understand the condition

Document visible concerns and place individual observations in the context of the vessel as a whole.

Prioritize the work

Separate issues needing prompt attention from maintenance, monitoring and further specialist assessment.

Make the next decision

Use clear written findings to guide conversations with sellers, repair yards and service providers.

Selected marine experience

The James Whalen tug.
A practical assessment.

Justin completed the hull survey and consultation report for the historic James Whalen tug in Thunder Bay. His work included advice to the municipality on practical disposal options in connection with the vessel’s salvage and disposition.

That experience informs the same approach offered to recreational owners: observe carefully, document the condition and explain the practical implications.
