Marine inspections / Niagara, Ontario

Understand the vessel.
Plan with confidence.

Recreational boat inspections for owners and prospective buyers across Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. Catharines, Port Dalhousie, Port Colborne, Fort Erie and the surrounding Niagara region.

Practical information
for real boat decisions.

Every boat carries a history of use, maintenance and modification. An inspection helps make that history more visible, identifying accessible condition concerns and questions that deserve further investigation.

Waking Giant Marine offers a systems-based perspective grounded in naval vessel operation, maintenance and technical assessment. The focus is a useful explanation of what was observed, why it matters and what to consider next.

Reasons to arrange an inspection

  • Understand visible condition before progressing with a recreational boat purchase.
  • Build a maintenance or refit plan for a vessel you already own.
  • Investigate a defined concern involving accessible hull, machinery or electrical systems.
  • Review visible corrosion, installation quality or signs of deferred maintenance.
01 / HULL & STRUCTURE

Look below the surface story.

Accessible hull, deck, fittings and visible structural condition, with attention to deterioration, leakage indicators and areas requiring closer investigation. Below-waterline access depends on haul-out arrangements.

02 / MACHINERY & SYSTEMS

Consider the whole installation.

Accessible machinery spaces, propulsion-related equipment, hoses, plumbing and bilge arrangements, within the agreed visual and operational scope.

03 / ELECTRICAL & CORROSION

Connect the observations.

Visible wiring, batteries, connections, equipment installation and corrosion concerns, informed by experience with auxiliary electrical equipment and shaft-grounding systems.

The process

Clear scope.
Useful findings.

The inspection is tailored to the vessel, your questions and the access available.

Request an inspection ↗

1. Tell Justin about the boat

Send make, model, year, length, hull material, location and whether it is afloat or ashore. Include the decision you are trying to make.

2. Agree the work

Confirm access, inspection scope, deliverables, scheduling and fee before booking. Haul-out, trials or specialist testing are discussed separately when needed.

3. Inspect and document

Receive written findings with photographs where appropriate, accessible areas reviewed, limitations and recommended next steps.

Before you book.

Can you inspect a boat before I buy it?

Contact Justin to discuss a pre-purchase condition inspection and the questions you want addressed. Timing, access and the agreed scope determine what can be assessed.

Can the report be used for insurance or financing?

Requirements vary by insurer and lender. Obtain their required scope and credentials first and share them with Justin before booking. Acceptance of a Waking Giant Marine report should be confirmed directly with the recipient.

Does every inspection include a haul-out or sea trial?

No. These arrangements must be agreed in advance. Afloat access limits what can be observed below the waterline; dismantling and specialist testing are not included unless specifically arranged.

What does an inspection cost?

Fees are quoted for the vessel, location, access, scope and reporting requirements. Email the boat details for a tailored quote.

Do you take on commercial marine assignments?

Selected technical assessment and consulting assignments can be discussed individually. Justin’s previous work includes the James Whalen tug hull survey and consultation report in Thunder Bay.
